Process Mapping is one component of Process Documentation. All process
documentation should include a process map.
Process Documentation should start with a review of the 8-12 major processes
in any organization. Below is an example of major business processes that would
be in most organizations:
- Understand Markets and Customers
- Research and Design Products and Services
- Market and Sell Products and Services
- Produce Products and Create Services
- Provide Customer Service
- Provide and Manage Information Systems
- Provide and Manage Financial Information Internally and Externally
- Provide and Manage Facilities
- Procurement Process
- Hire and Train Employees
- Manage Improvement and Change
- Determine Vision, Mission, Strategy, and Goals
The following are components of Process Documentation:
- Process Map of entire process from start to finish including all steps
and activities in a major process
- Determine process measures for cost, time, quality, and customer
satisfaction
- Assign process owners and managers for each major process
- Documents Process Improvement initiatives at process level
- Document process training for new and current employees
