James Brimson in his book "The Handbook of
Process-based Accounting, Leveraging Processes to Predict Results
published by American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, say:
- "process thinking forms the backbone of the
techniques that world-class companies have implemented. Combining these
tools within a process accounting framework enables an enterprise to
develop a financial model that offers a promise of fulfilling the
objective and predictive requirements needed for both internal and
external reporting."
Very successful organizations have found that you can only improve so much if
you continue to focus just on improving activities within a department or cost
center. Just like in a real race, the least efficient portion of the race is the
hand off between runners. Likewise the least efficient portion of any
organization is the handoffs between:
- departments and cost centers
- customers and your organization
- vendors and your organization
- between divisions
Therefore any organization that wants to become world class needs to focus on
cross functional business processes.
This is done through Process Management
